Our Idea
Our application is called ‘Trendr’. Our name came from the idea of the Tinder application, seeing as the app itself originated from the idea of Tinder.
Our idea for this application stemmed from the application Tinder, and how well the application works, we thought it would be a good structure to put towards something that we all do; clothes shopping. The user can choose a specific item of clothing, accessory or outfit for an occasion. the app will be able to recommend clothing based on events, meaning people looking for party dresses won’t be shown sportswear. The app then searches through different websites and brands to meet the requirements you have chosen. This puts all the customers shopping in one place, it also means that the app can offer users the lowest available price for the item they are buying out because we will have clothes from a wide range of retailers, allowing comparison between retail prices. Each garment found in the search is brought up one by one and the audience will be able to swipe right on the items they like and be able to save them into their basket, and swipe left if it doesn’t interest them at all, disregarding it completely. After each sale, users will be asked what their purchase is for (casual, party, holiday, wedding etc.), other users can then filter the clothing so that they are only shown items other people brought for these occasions.
The app will also have a calendar function integrated into the shopping experience; this function will allow users to put any upcoming events onto the app. For ease of use the app will link to the users Facebook calendar and any personal calendar that they use to import events without the user having to input them all themselves. The app will provide users with reminders for their events and then give them suggestions of products that they may want to purchase for it. For example, if they have a party upcoming, then the app will remind them two weeks before the event and give the user the option to swipe through party outfit options.
The app will use cookies to learn what colours, trends and items you like or dislike as you’re swiping through, so it can suggest more of the products that will appeal to each customer. This means that customers won’t have to scroll through multiple pages of items that wouldn’t appeal to them before getting to the things they want to buy.
Competitors
The Missguided app has the feature of swiping right and left for garments and favourites them for you. However, it randomly picks through all garments, so only brings up clothes you might like and you cannot choose specific requirements.
ASOS uses the idea of showing many different brands and retailers all in one place.
Polyvore allows you to refine search for specific types of clothing you want to buy and brings them up from all the different websites, showing you the best price.
Mallzee is our closest competitor as it does pretty much exactly what our app describes however it doesn’t work very well and its almost unheard of. We will use this as ways to improve what we’re working towards.
