Idea One
For this design, Steph produced a rough digital sketch. This design works through HTML and is a side-scrolling webpage. It starts on the left side with the waterwheel, which will be animated to turn with water dripping off, it will also pulsate to encourage people to click on it which will then bring up a pop up box with information (like the example shows). Then emerging from the water at the bottom, a silk thread will create the timeline with different dates coming off at the side supported by different illustrations of what happened at that particular time, either still or animated. Just as before a pop-up box with further information will appear when you click on the dates. At the end of the timeline, the winding machine that the threads go into is shown.
Idea Two
This design would also work through HTML, but instead of scrolling, it works on the basis of clicking through to another page. The rectangle on the left displays the four options you can choose to learn about when clicked on these will take you to the relevant page. the other two rectangles are an example of what page you would go to, these pages would also involve going through to different pages for the different parts of the selected subject. For example, if you chose the process of making silk an animation and short description would be put in place then you would click through to the next stage, once you reach the end you can go back to the start page and learn about another subject. The colours and images that have been used in this digital sketch are simply placeholders.
Finalising an Idea
After a presentation with the client we like the clickthrough idea for the infographic, we feel that way we can add more information. The client liked our scrolling page but felt there wasn’t a way to store the amount of information she envisioned the infographic having. So before finalising everything we arranged with the client to have a more in depth look as to what information they want to include. One this information is refined and finalised we can look into a way of displaying it; this requires further research.
Our client, Whitchurch Silk Mill, have requested we bespeak the journey the Silk Mill has taken, this will be used to to inform visitors to either the website or the mill. The client has communicated an infographic format to explain the history of the ancient network of trade and routes that transported the silk, the format will also need to be compatible with desktop and mobile.
